Zvandiri- when the medicines alone are not enough.

Zvandiri started in 2004 with six adolescents living with HIV in Harare who wanted more than Antiretroviral medicines.

They wanted another form of treatment – a treatment for the fear, loneliness and anxiety in their lives. Since its inception, Zvandiri has integrated mental health within HIV testing, treatment and care, led by young people living with HIV trained as peer counsellors and in partnership with the Government of Zimbabwe.

Today, Zvandiri’s evidence-based model has been adopted or adapted through partnerships with Governments and implementing partners in ten other countries in the region. Here the Lancet HIV summarises Zvandiri’s journey over the last 18 years.
